The Tenets of TaeKwonDo should be recited aloud at the beginning of every class. It is important that students know these are not merely words but the characteristics one must possess if he/she is to ever become a true student of the Art.
The Tenets of TaeKwonDo go to the very roots of the Art, that of the positive development of the total individual. A person who is both a positive influence on those around him/her and the community.
7 Tenents of TaeKwonDo
Loyalty means fulfilling obligations to friends, family, teachers, and students. The loyal person honors commitments made to the community.
Courtesy means treating others politely and with respect. The courteous person behaves in a way that shows a concern for others’ feelings
Integrity means holding to principles of right and wrong even when doing so is difficult. The person with integrity can be trusted to behave honestly.
Perseverance means remaining steady in the pursuit of your goals. The perseverant person does not change her course of action because of difficulties.
Self-control means restraining your desires, emotions, and reactions. The person with self-control allows only conscious choices to dictate behavior.
Courage means facing difficulty and danger with resolution. The courageous person does not allow fear of the consequences of failure to stop her from doing what she has chosen to do.
Humility means accepting that your skills and accomplishments do not belong to you alone. The humble person looks for the best in others.
